Ghosts, Phantom Hounds of Wistmans Wood, Devon

In Wistman Woods it is said that the Yeth Hounds still haunt these ancient woods. Others have encountered monks in white robes in a funeral procession. Twisted oaks hundreds of years old have survived in this woodland, which may have been used by druids as a place of worship. It's name itself derives from the local word "whisht" which means "eerie". If you come to Devon and wish to visit this area it can only be reached by footpath as there is no direct access.

Cures That Were Used In The 17th Century

The Chinese people of the 17th century have used plants for medicinal purposes for 4500 years, many of these were brought to Europe at that time. Domestic plants such as foxglove and marshmellow were used to cure illnesses. As well as the use of plants at this time doctors believed in the power of powders which were made from strange ingredients such as horn from a unicorn and the bezoar stone. Which I believe was made famous in J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter books, which was claimed to be the tears of a stag turned to stone. They used many strange ingredients such as live worms, fox lungs for asthma, spider’s webs, swallow nests and skulls of executed criminals. All these extraordinary ingredients were highly sought after in the mid 17th century.

Flint is a type of chalcedony it ranges in colour from grey, smoky-brown and brown-black. This mineral is used for thought transference such as ideas, loving messages and connecting with the energy of the universe. Spiritual healing through divining

Divination has long been used to foretell a diagnosis of medical symptoms. But still today we use it in one form or another dreams, omens, astrology, dowsing and palmistry. I often think that spiritual healing integrates this system through certain aspects of divining through higher levels of vibrational energy. Though it must be said that dreams play an important part of the human psyche and help guide us towards inner issues as do omens and should not be so easily ignored. As is our own inner built system that is always there to guide us, our own intuition which we ignore at our own peril.  Perhaps we just need to be aware of all the signs that stand before us and take a walk into the unknown and let go of our preconceptions one step at a time.
